July Female AOTM: Sarah Santamauro!

 In DAClete of the Month

This is our first official DAC Athlete of the Month (otherwise known as DAC’lete of the month!)

We will be honoring two people every month who have caught the eyes of coaches and fellow athletes at the gym!

First up: our girl Sarah Santamauro, who has become an integral part of the District Barbell Club.

Not only is Sarah a founding member of the barbell club, but she has worked her butt off to compete in her very first powerlifting meet this past weekend. Her coaches and teammates can attest, this girl has come SO FAR and has honed in her strength over the last few months.

Sarah is an amazing teammate and an incredible human. We’re proud to call her our pick for female DAC’lete of the month for July!

Find out a little more about her:

  1. How long have you been a member at District Athletic Club?
I’ve been with the gym since 2016, but time flies when you’re having fun!
  2. What are some of your fitness goals to accomplish in 2019?
One of my fitness goals is to CRUSH the powerlifting meet in November *insert Oprah meme of PRs being dished out*  I just want to lift heavy shit with my badass friends.
  3. What are some of your recent accomplishments of which you’re most proud?
I’m pretty proud of my squat PR being 287 (shout out to Eric for pushing the 2 extra lbs). Squatting is my least favorite thing to do – aside from sumo deadlifts. But honestly, every DACBBC class is an accomplishment because it’s ALWAYS saucy.
  4. Do you adhere to any form of daily/weekly diet regimen to power your workouts?  What does your dream cheat meal/day look like?
Not really. I stopped counting macros and prepping food myself to eliminate the stress.  I bounce between Platinum Prep and Icon Meals for my lunches and dinners. I’m also powered by gummy bears and orange Powerade protein shakes.
My dream chEAT meal…Caesar salad from GGs, Pepperoni pizza rolls from Tom & Pats, vintage carnival from GGs (thank me later), and a double Tito’s w/ light ice and extra fresh lime.
  5. If you were to choose a workout for the entire DAC
We wouldn’t run, that’s for sure. It would definitely involve some form of benching and JM presses with the fat bar.
  6. How do you spend your time when you’re away from DAC
I’m the least exciting person on the planet. I work, snuggle with my dog, and make sure my nephew is living his best life.
  7. What is one fact that other DAC members may not know about you?
Ugh. I used to enjoy singing. Like. Opera singing and it’s all my grandmothers fault…lets never talk about this again, k?
  8. Do you have any motivational thoughts or suggestions to folks just getting started at the gym?
LETS. FUCKING. GOOOOOOO. Never be intimidated, it won’t help you get to where YOU want to be.  Don’t fear the sound of weight being slammed around (my version of church bells). Be open to suggestions and recommendations by your coaches/mentors/peers. Don’t get fucked over by your thoughts of self doubt. YOU ARE NOT IN THIS ALONE. EVER.
